The Sentient Plant BioDome Project at Los Feliz campus in Los Angeles, California has a cool new device for measuring and recording electrical signals from plants.

The BioDome outdoor classroom learning environment affords students practical hands-on experience in understanding the sentient life of plants; thereby, deepening their appreciation and inter-connectedness with the natural world.

The Sentient Plant BioDome Project is made possible by Phytl Signs, a ‘wearable’ device for plants that measures and records electrical signals emitted by plants. At the BioDome outdoor classroom, students connect the Phytl Signs device to a clip that’s gently attached to a leaf on a plant; and subsequently, to a stake that’s driven into the soil right next to the plant… both sensors capture and amplify the electrical signals that plants emit in response to their environment.

Phytl Signs researchers claim that plants will fire off signals, based on conditions like light/darkness, damage to the plant, and much more. The signals are then transmitted to the Phytl Signs app on a student’s phone or tablet.

Through the Phytl Signs explorer app, students connect with the Phytl Signs ongoing research community to discuss plant signals, gaining insight into the exciting new frontier of decoding the mysteries of plant signals. Dome-It and Pacific Domes team up

On Saturday, August 7th, one of our sales representatives attended Ecopalooza, a free summer concert event held in Portland, OR. This year Ecopalooza was presented by Dome It! 

Recently, Pacific Domes of Ashland Oregon, USA, partnered with Dome It and was proud to supply a 16’ tall greenhouse dome which was set up within the event and used as an information booth. The event was a success for both parties, with more awareness being brought to the world about the promising future of domes.

Dome It is a community outreach program whose goal is to ultimately gift greenhouse dome/gardens to every school in the country. 

The idea first got started in 2007 with the strong goal to fix the nation’s stance on healthcare. One way to send a global message and teach our children about sharing the responsibility of our health is by putting a greenhouse dome on the grounds of every school, and filling it with the resources to grow and maintain fresh food from the garden.


Pacific Domes is no stranger to greenhouse domes and has manufactured them in the past for other projects, sometimes in sizes as large as our 60’ dome which covers 2800 sq. ft. 

The 16’ tall dome that was used at Ecopalooza is a great example of our greenhouse dome on a small scale. The dome had custom decals applied at the top, and features such as our base screen roll-up to deliver ventilation.
